Established in Swanage in 1926 after moving down from Scotland where Alfonso Forte started making ice cream in 1901. He opened a cafe/ice cream parlour in Station Road, through popular demand, he soon moved the ice cream parlour to 9 Shore road. The company is now run by Alfonso's grandson Ricky, who in 1999 moved the parlour to 11 Shore Road and built a larger factory at The Cottage, Station Place, which is in the centre of town. Earlier this year another parlour was acquired at 3, the Mowlem, Shore Road. Fortes Ice Cream has won many diplomas in the Ice Cream Alliance's National Competitions and currently has in excess of forty flavours which proves very popular with holidaymakers and locals throughout the Isle of Purbeck. |
